[Jiaozuo Evening News] Descendants of Guan Yu and Nan Guishan

August 09, 2023

"The whole village of Nanguishan has one surname, and Guan Gong and Guan Yu are the ancestors." The 551 people in Nanguishan Village, Xiaodong Township, Wuzhi County, are all descendants of Guan Yu, a famous general in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.

The "Guansheng Family Temple" in Nanguishan Village was built in a simple courtyard in the early years of the Republic of China. The main hall, the mountain gate, and the east hall rooms are neatly organized, with carved beams and painted buildings. The three statues of Guan Sheng, Guan Ping and Zhou Cang are lifelike. The first and ninth years of Qianlong, the twenty-ninth year of Guangxu and other five-way stone steles, four thick poplar trees, over a hundred years old, seem to be tracing back the long history to visitors...

Talking about the origin of the Guan clan in Nanguishan Village, Guan Xiaozhuang, the 64th descendant of Guan Yu, is very famous: in the 42nd year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1614), Guan Dengke, the 49th grandson of Guan Yu and the "hereditary Hanlin", led the pass by order. The close relatives of the clan moved from Changping Village, Xiexian County (now Yuncheng, Shanxi), Guan Yu's hometown, to the burial place of Guan Yu's head - Luoyang Guanlin Shouling. At the end of Ming Dynasty, the 53rd grandson of Guan Yu moved to Tao Village, Xiaodong Town, west of Wuzhi City, and lived scattered along the embankment on the north bank of Qinhe River. In the autumn of the twenty-sixth year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1761), the water in the Qin River rose, and the embankment in the west of Taocun burst. Liu Tongxun, a scholar of the Dongge University and the Ministry of Rites and Ministry of War, came to supervise in person as an imperial envoy. He admired the loyalty and courage of the Guan clan in fighting the flood and saving the people from the fire and water. He ordered him to choose a highland in the northwest corner of Tao Village to build a shed and build a house to settle down. . Because of the actions of the Guan clan to fight the flood and save the people, and in line with the implication of good deeds and good deeds of Xingshan Temple in Taocun, Liu Tongxun called his village "Guishan Nanshe" and later changed its name to Nanguishan.
